How to Make your Company a Social Media Powerhouse in Just Two Days

The majority of real estate companies are going about their social media strategies all wrong, or not at all. Do You Know Who’s Watching Your Videos?

by Suzanne Roy

February 15, 2012  |  4 Comments

What's important to me, as a social media strategist, is seeing common ground -- and as a Realtor, that should be important to you, too. What is the subject/title of the videos that are of most interest? Who are the most interested? How old are they? Where are they? How long did I maintain their interest? Is what I am conveying even worth the time and effort I am putting in? Those are all questions that can be answered quickly and efficiently through the YouTube Analytics. By looking at your most viewed (and least viewed) videos, you'll be able to gain a great deal of information as to what your audience is interested in (and disinterested in). In the video below, I show you how you can see all your viewing statistics and compare them to their respective titles.

The biggest thing I gained from these analytics numbers is how the title plays a huge role in how many views I get, and also how the age of your YouTube channel also plays a role in how many eyeballs you are getting -- just like the age of your website or blog has the same search engine optimization (SEO) effectiveness. What should you do with this information? Think about who you are wanting to target:
  • Does your video title attract those targeted viewers?
  • Does your video title truly describe what your video is about?
  • Does your video truly answer the questions or provide the information that your target is looking for?
  • Is your video created with the style that your audience would relate to?
David Guerrera from HubSpot recently said: "A younger audience tends to watch video content that is fast-paced, flashy, and has a strong focus on the aesthetics of the video. Viewers of an older generation tend to prefer more traditional style videos. They generally have a longer attention span that is suitable for a slower paced and informative video without all the bells and whistles." (You can read more about David's targeting philosophy at HubSpot). Another important piece of information from YouTube's analytics: audience retention. These graphs show very clearly when your audience loses interest and where it has the most interest (even where viewers rewind the video to watch a part of it again). The below video shows a dramatic difference between targeting well and not targeting well at all:

Whether they are virtual tours of your newest listing or the proclamation of debunking third-party listings syndication, videos can provide excellent results on your website and/or blog. But do you really know who is watching your videos? Sure, you may have 324 views of your latest short-sale infomercial that you posted online, but wouldn’t it [...]
